News: The Roster Collection: Digital, Heritage, Future

The event, promoted by the Municipality of Portoferraio and the Parco Nazionale Arcipelago Toscano in collaboration with Museo Galileo, aims to illustrate the milestones achieved and future prospects for the founding of a scientific museum on Elba Island. The cornerstone of this journey is the permanent exhibition dedicated to Giorgio Roster at the English Fort. The programme also includes the presentation of the digital library dedicated to the Roster Collection held at the Biblioteca Foresiana in Portoferraio, which has been developed by Museo Galileo.

The platform provides access to a precious photographic archive documenting the life and scientific activity of Giorgio Roster (1843-1927), an eclectic Florentine scientist and photographer who spent long periods on Elba Island conducting botanical and mineralogical research. Speakers for Museo Galileo will include Executive Director Roberto Ferrari and the Head of the Digital Library, Stefano Casati. The event will conclude with a guided tour of the exhibition dedicated to Roster.
