The Italian Ministry of Culture (MIC) has announced a significant three-million-euro investment for the GalileoLab, a new cultural and educational hub in Florence. The funding is part of the Decree for the programming of financial resources designated for “Major Cultural Heritage Projects” for 2025.
The GalileoLab, promoted by the Museo Galileo, is envisioned as a dedicated space for citizens, schools, and national and international audiences. It will showcase the contribution of Florence and Tuscany to the history of science through exhibitions, demonstrations, and educational initiatives. The financing was officially announced yesterday, October 21, via a press release from the MIC (Italian only).
The project will be housed in the Santa Maria Novella Complex. In 2023, the Florence City Council granted the Museo Galileo free, ten-year use of premises on the first floor for the Lab.
‘We are deeply grateful to the Ministry of Culture—said Roberto Ferrari, Executive Director of the Museo Galileo—whose extraordinary support allows us to tackle the ambitious GalileoLab project in the best possible way. It will be a place where, through innovative exhibitions, shows, and wide-ranging outreach initiatives, we will reassert the contribution of the history of science to the understanding of contemporary society. Remaining faithful to our identity as a cultural institution attentive to the study of sources and open to digital experimentation, we will give our contribution to the vast program of cultural interventions planned for the Santa Maria Novella complex, collaborating, as always, with national and international partners of relevance.’
