To mark the fourth centenary of the publication of Federico Cesi’s Apiarium (1625)—the undisputed manifesto of the new course of naturalistic studies at the Accademia dei Lincei following the invention of the Galilean microscope—the Museo Galileo and the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei have successfully “restored” the critical digital edition of the famous entomological treatise and the contemporary plate of the Melissographia. This edition was first launched in 2003 by the Istituto e Museo di Storia della Scienza, then directed by Paolo Galluzzi, to celebrate the fourth centenary of the Accademia dei Lincei’s foundation. It remains one of the most significant examples of harnessing digital potential for the analysis of complex and difficult-to-read texts. Due to the premature aging of the digital media, the edition had become temporarily inaccessible. The scientific quality of the work, edited by Luigi Guerrini with a translation by Marco Guardo, necessitated a comprehensive IT restoration to ensure its continued accessibility for scholars and the public alike.
