Archivio di Stato di Firenze
March 21 – May 23, 2025
The exhibition Mechanics and ornamentation: A codex of the Buontalenti school, co-organised by the Archivio di Stato di Firenze, Museo Galileo and Biblioteca Marucelliana, was opened on March 21. The exhibition focuses on the Libro di disegni, a manuscript known as Taccuino Secco Suardo and attributed to Bernardo Buontalenti’s circle, which was acquired by the Italian Ministry of Culture and entrusted to the Archivio di Stato last November. A touchscreen allows visitors to virtually browse through the folios of the rare codex, which has been recently restored. Drawings and documents from other Florentine libraries and cultural institutions as well as from the Archivio di Stato di Firenze are also on display.
The Museo Galileo contributed to the exhibition scientific plan, developed the page-flip software and lent a valuable illustrated manuscript on the operations of various topographic instruments used in the late 16th century: Alessandro Pitti (1564 - ?), Libro di regole et modi di diverse misurationi (Rari 448).
