This conference is the first in a series conceived by Arithmeum and Museo Galileo, which aims to bring together directors and curators of museums that keep historical scientific instruments on a regular basis.
This conference marks the start of a new, quadrennial symposium series, a joint initiative of the Arithmeum and Museo Galileo. The series is based on an idea by the Arithmeum’s founder, Prof. Bernhard Korte, who recently passed away. Its primary objective is to convene directors and curators from institutions that house historical scientific instrument collections. By fostering closer collaboration and the exchange of ideas among museum professionals, the series seeks to establish common standards and guidelines for museums of the history of science. At this first symposium, Giorgio Strano, Museo Galileo’s curator of collections, and assistant curator Gaia Cugini will give a talk on “Egnazio Danti’s Instrumentum primi mobilis and the Sinical Quadrant.” Symposium programme Abstracts
