The Enrico Fermi Prize of the Italian Physical Society for 2024 was jointly awarded to Alberto Diaspro and Francesco Saverio Pavone for their experimental research in the field of physics applied to biological systems.

Francesco Saverio Pavone, Full Professor at the Physics Department of the University of Florence and Director of Biophysics Area of the European Laboratory for Non-Linear Spectroscopy (LENS), is President of Museo Galileo.

Prof. Pavone claimed: “I am deeply honoured to receive this prestigious award, which sheds light on a very promising line of research.” In addition to expressing his satisfaction with the important award received, Prof. Pavone emphasised the long-lasting collaboration between LENS and Museo Galileo: “Since 2021 a shared research programme has been underway focusing on the study of the effects of interaction between collections and visitors, through the application of analysis techniques and methodologies from neuroscience and neurobiology. The study aims not only at basic research but also at public outreach in order to create a strong link between research activity and the public in the museum environment. This coming autumn the data collection campaign through the involvement of visitors will finally start: the first neuroaesthetic laboratory in an Italian museum is born!”
