ITA Language: Italian

On 5 and 6 November 2026, Museo Galileo will host the international conference Leibniz and Florence: Science, Scholarship, and Cultural Relations, organised in collaboration with the
Sodalitas Leibnitiana, the University of Turin, and the Gottfried-Wilhelm-Leibniz-Gesellschaft, under the patronage of the Municipality of Florence and the Region of Tuscany.
The conference focuses on Leibniz’s stay in Florence between November and December 1689, during which he came into contact with some of the leading figures in the city’s scientific and
cultural life, including Antonio Magliabechi, Vincenzo Viviani, Francesco Redi, and Lorenzo Magalotti. During his time in Florence, Leibniz engaged with Galileo’s intellectual legacy, continued his work on the Dynamica, and pursued historical and genealogical research in the city’s libraries and archives.
Bringing together Italian and international scholars, the conference aims to reconstruct the network of intellectual relationships Leibniz established in Florence, explore the city’s role in his scientific and scholarly pursuits, and foster further research and international collaboration.

Free admission until capacity is reached.
