On Monday, 28 September, at 5.30 pm, the Museum will host the presentation of the volume La tecnica degli Alinari (1852–1920). Dagli obiettivi alle fotografie (The Technology of Alinari (1852–1920). Lenses and Photographs).

For more than a century, the Alinari brothers photographed works of art, monuments, cities and landscapes, creating images that helped shape the collective memory of Italy and gave rise to one of the world's most important photographic collections. Less well known is the history of the instruments that made this work possible.

The lenses, cameras, large-format negatives and glass plates used to produce these photographs are the focus of the volume La tecnica degli Alinari, edited by Corrado D'Agostini and Anna Giatti and published by Dario Cimorelli Editore for the Alinari Foundation for Photography.

Available in bookshops from 25 September 2026, the volume also includes contributions by Francesca Bongioanni, Barbara Cattaneo, Eugenia Di Rocco and Giulia Fraticelli, who respectively explore the Alinari catalogues and large formats, the techniques used for exceptionally large negatives, and the analysis, documentation and restoration of photographic plates.

Vincenzo Silvestri, photographer and manufacturer of photographic lenses, will be in conversation with the volume's editors, Corrado D'Agostini and Anna Giatti.
